The Artists behind Star Onyx

Star Onyx was founded by myself, Alistair, in early 2023. What started as crafting drums for myself, my wife, and fellow practitioners, evolved into a passion project. This was a totally natural progression after my wife Stephanie and I trained together as Shamanic Practitioners in 2021. I also later became an Advanced Shamanic Practitioner in Ancestral Healing, deepening my connection to the drum and my own spiritual practice.

Crafting from raw ingredients, and turning ceremonial tools into personal and symbolic art pieces, comes from my own love for art, tradition, and “old world” luxury materials and processes. I have a background in holistic health, specialising in nutrition and gut healing, and when I’m not crafting I spend much of my time cooking and baking.

Alongside my craft, I have trained in business development and branding, and I work with holistic and creative business owners to develop their unique branding and logo design.

Star Onyx is very much a husband-and-wife project, as Stephanie has supported its growth from the beginning, taking over the day-to-day administrative and operational aspects. Stephanie also regularly contributes painted artwork to pieces for the shop and commissions. As well as being a trained holistic practitioner, Shamanic Practitioner and Priestess of the Moon, she is finishing her PhD in travel psychology and public health. Her main interests include nature, health, and anthropology, and she is a student of the Celtic harp and Spanish language.

Above all, this work is a lifestyle business, integrated into our entire way of being. We are deeply connected with our Scottish land and heritage, and spend much of our time in nature with our Jack Russell, Anam Cara. Connection with the land is at the core of every Star Onyx creation.
